Delete your Hike Alberta account
Last updated October 4, 2026
You can delete your Hike Alberta account and everything stored with it at any time, free of charge. It works the same in the Hike Alberta app for Android and on the website, hikealberta.ca. You do not need the app installed to delete your account.
Delete it yourself, in the app or on the website
- Open the Hike Alberta app, or go to hikealberta.ca, and sign in.
- Open Profile (the Profile tab at the bottom of the screen on a phone, or the menu under your initials at the top right on a computer).
- Scroll down to Delete account.
- Type DELETE in the box, then tap Delete my account.
Your account and its data are deleted at once. This cannot be undone. If you would like a copy first, use Export my data on the same Profile page before you delete.
Or ask us by email
If you cannot sign in, or prefer not to use the app, email [email protected] from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my Hike Alberta account". If you write from another address, we will ask you to confirm from the account's address, so that no one can delete someone else's account. We delete the account and reply to confirm, normally within 30 days.
What is deleted
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your account: name, email address and sign in details (password or Google link) | Deleted. You can no longer sign in. |
| Your profile and home region | Deleted. |
| Saved trails (your wish list) | Deleted. |
| Completed hikes, with their dates, times and private notes | Deleted. |
| Star ratings | Deleted and removed from each trail's average rating. |
| Public comments and conditions reports | Deleted from every trail. |
| Photos, including any still waiting for review | The files and their public copies are deleted. |
| Reports and blocked account preferences | Open reports you sent, open reports about your posts, and your block preferences are deleted. |
What may remain for a short time
- Backups: the account database keeps recovery backups for up to 35 days, used only to restore the service after a fault. Your data rolls off them within 35 days.
- Server logs: basic technical logs (such as IP addresses, the requests made and an internal account number) are deleted automatically: account service logs after 14 days, website logs after 90 days.
- Caches: a copy of an approved photo can stay in our content delivery network's cache for a short time after it is deleted.
- Email: if you wrote to us, we keep that conversation as a record of your request.
If you signed in with Google, you can also remove Hike Alberta from the third party apps connected to your Google Account, in your Google Account settings.
Delete only some of your data
You do not have to delete your account to remove things. Remove a hike on the trail's page, remove a trail from your wish list under Saved, or use Delete next to your own comment or photo on the trail. Each is deleted at once.
More about how we handle your information is in the Privacy Policy. Questions: [email protected].
